M&M Jewelery
Costume Jewelry
Costume first appeared in the 1920’s thanks to Coco Chanel. Wearing costume was a way of embellishing an outfit. When the term is used today, it is sometimes interchanged with the term fashion jewelry. The terms for either generally mean inexpensive and mass produced. For most consumers the main difference between costume, antique and fine jewelry is the price. However, some costume designers who have become well known sell for a premium. Some pieces do have natural stones however the settings are plated. We carry unique pieces of costume and are always open to buying individual pieces or collections.
What makes costume special?
Jewelry Made For Style With Love
Costume often incorporates workmanship and materials on par with fine jewelry. Early in the 20th century, thanks to new materials and industrialization, fashion designers started to experiment with costume as an expression of style and creativity, using non-precious materials so that pieces could be bigger and bolder. These pieces were meant to be worn like art rather than as indicators of wealth.
